Evaporation Calculator

Please Read: Standard industry practices recommend ordering 4% to 10% more concrete than is estimated from a volumetric calculation. Some of the situations this will account for are waste, spillage, over-excavation, spreading of forms, loss of entrained air during placement, settlement and a change in volume (hardened concrete volume is 1% to 2% less than that of plastic concrete). Buckeye Ready-Mix conducts yield tests to verify design weights and maintains certified scales, therefore is not responsible for shortages that arise from ordering issues.

Important Information

Protection Measures Recommended When Either of These Two Conditions Exist:

  • The rate of evaporation is at or greater than 0.10 lb/sq.ft./hr.
  • Two or more of the following factors are exceeded.
    • Ambient temperature is greater than 80 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Relative humidity is less than 60 percent.
    • Average wind speed is greater than 10 mph.

Conditions not Favorable for Concrete Placement When Either of These Two Conditions Exist:

  • The rate of evaporation is at or greater than 0.25 lb/sq.ft./hr.
  • When all of the following factors are exceeded.
    • The ambient temperature is greater than 80 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Relative humidity is less than 40 percent.
    • Average wind speed is greater than 15 mph.

THIS WORKSHEET DOES NOT GUARANTEE SUCCESSFUL CONCRETE FINISHING AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS AN ADDITIONAL TOOL TO PREPARE FOR PLACEMENTS.

SURFACE EVAPORATION CAN BE SLOWED BY USING METHODS SUCH AS WIND BREAKS, FOGGING AND EARLY CURING, BUT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT PLASTIC SHRINKAGE WILL NOT OCCUR.
